Alana is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is Recycle Every Day by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. Here is what students had to say about Alana: "I like Alana because she has a nice heart." - Ayaan "She played with me at BASE." - Bella "She's super kind and she's sitting quietly right now." - Gurshan "I like Alana." - Dalton "She's nice, kind, and she plays with me." - Kebron "She always tries her best." - Oliver TK focused on a letter each week of school. Last week students made it to the end of the alphabet. Today we celebrated these awesome learners with an Alphabet "Soup"er Star party. We watched Martha Speaks on Reading Rainbow and had alphabet soup together. Students loved finding letters even if they didn't love the soup. Haha!

Hooray! We have reached the end of the alphabet!! Students have learned so much this year about letters and sounds. Next week we will celebrate with an Alphabet Soup-er Star party! In other big news, have you seen the rollie pollies?!?!?! TK is fascinated with these tiny crustaceans, also called pill bugs. They scavenge every recess to find, observe, and carefully hold the little creatures. Fun fact: Pill bugs are the only crustaceans that have adapted to spend their lives on land. They breathe through gills and need moisture to survive but they cannot swim. These harmless bugs roll into balls as a defense mechanism and are quite charming to our young TK scientists. Here they are in action: TK is enjoying our unit on Nursery Rhymes too. Students chant the rhymes, identify sight words in the rhymes, illustrate pictures to demonstrate their comprehension, and have the opportunity to build the rhyme with word cards as a challenge. This week they also cut out Humpty Dumpty's pieces and tried to put him back together again. They gave him a bandaid to help him feel better. Two students took on big challenges at center time. They felt so proud of finishing these difficult tasks:
Oliver is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is One Big Pair of Underwear by Laura Gehl and Tom Lichtenheld. Here is what students had to say about Oliver: "He's always nice and always plays with me." - Abeer "He's kind and he plays centers quiet." - Adriana "He's a great student." - Lara "I like Oliver." - Corinne "He tries his best not to talk at centers." - Isaiah "He's a good student and he listens to the teacher every day." - Luke This is Yy week in TK. To celebrate this letter, students have the chance to do yoga each day! It's so fun for them to challenge their bodies, breathe, and practice self-control while enjoying a cool themed story from Cosmic Kids Yoga. Today we had our first assembly of the year for TK and they were a tremendous audience. I was so proud of them for being respectful listeners and using self-control to sit and watch while the high school students from PFAA and Costa Rica sang, played instruments, and danced in celebration of unity and peace between our schools and our countries with the One Voice project. One Voice is a beautiful opportunity for these students to share rich multicultural experiences, especially through art. Our young students even sang a song in Spanish that they learned from Senora Quant. The students visiting from Costa Rica were touched by their sweet words and voices.
After sitting still so well, we got to enjoy the beautiful spring weather at recess! TK is so excited that spring is officially here! We have been learning about the seasons all year. This week students wrote in their journals how they feel about spring and what they see in spring. They shared their favorite flowers at morning meeting and are beginning a flower art project for Open House.
This week's photos feature many of their current favorite center jobs as well as the surprise green and gold sensory table objects that the leprechauns left in TK last week! Luke is our STAR of the Week. He loved playing at the Sacramento Children's Museum! Check out his awesome monster face. Here is what students had to say about Louis: "He's nice and he's the STAR." - Veean "He plays with me." - Louis "He's my friend and he's nice." - Lorenzo "He's kindness all of the time." - Connor "He plays with everybody." - Vaibhav "I like Luke." - Carmela Ann Our first field trip was a success! Students had a blast exploring the Sacramento Children's Museum. For some of them though, riding a school bus for the first time was even more exciting. Today TK worked out with Sami and Sami's Circuit program. Students cheered each other on and were so happy moving and grooving through the many stations. We ended the day with choice time. Many students chose to create signs warning those sneaky leprechauns to stay out of TK. Hope they work!
Louis is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is No, David! by David Shannon. Here is what students had to say about Louis: "He's kind to people." - Aizah "He's one of my friends." - Avery "He's nice to everybody and helpful and plays with girls and boys." - Joanna "He's really funny and runs really, really fast." - Luke "He's so funny and kind and has 100 love in his heart." - Lara "He's very kind and sweet and very, very kind." - Evan Students had a blast with our school-wide Dr. Seuss themed week. Between dress up days, Dr. Seuss night, and all the wonderful stories to share, it's been a fantastic week. Here they are at Morning Meeting on Wacky Wednesday playing instruments and cheering for their friends and on Thursday looking for hidden letter v in our morning message. There are also a few photos of fun new center jobs too. For Vv week, students learned the word vortex and got to see one in action. It was exciting! On Friday students will ride the bus for their first field trip. I can't wait to share this fun new experience with them!
Lorenzo is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is Duck on a Bike by David Shannon. Here is what students had to say about Lorenzo: "He's kind and tries his best." - Gurshan "He shows a lot of kindness." - Oliver "He's super fast." - Kseniia "He's my friend." - Ayaan "He's kind and nice." - Kebron "He plays with everybody." - Bella Students get excited when we have new centers. They are working especially hard this month to identify numbers through 20 and to learn all of their letter names and sounds. When students can do this with play dough and puzzles, it just feels like play! Here are images of the new centers along with some old favorites: We had another wet week and that means more inside recess. We have fun in TK no matter the weather. :)
Lara is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is Aqualicious by Victoria Kann. Here is what students had to say about Lara: "She always plays with me." - Abeer "I like Lara!" - Alana "She's kind and always nice to people." - Corinne "She's a good person." - Dalton "She's my friend." - Louis "She's cute like a kitten." - Connor TK has had some special guests this week. They got to spend time with a terrific group of 5th Grade buddies. These big kids were so kind to TK and gave them lots of help in class and lots of hugs and playtime on the playground. Thank you 5th Graders!
Kseniia is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is The Beetle Alphabet Book by Jerry Pallotta and David Biedrzycki. Here is what students had to say about Kseniia: "She's my friend." - Adriana "She's the STAR!" - Veean "She's cute." - Carmela "She's kind and likes to show people her puppet shows." - Lara "She's really responsible." - Isaiah "I like Kseniia." - Evan The best part of our week was Global School Play Day. Students loved playing freely from recess until the end of the day. These kids are made for play.
Kebron is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is Little Bea and the Snowy Day. Here is what students had to say about Kebron: "She's always kind." - Ayaan "She's brave and she never gives up on her friends." - Avery "She's nice." - Bella "She plays with me every day and if nobody wants to play with me she does when I am sad." - Joanna "She's kind." - Vaibhav "I like Kebron." - Aizah Hooray TK students are officially 100 days smarter than they were on the first day of school. TK students have grown so much physically, academically, and socially/emotionally too. Some of them are almost as big as an Emperor penguin! They are ready to take on more challenging reading and writing activities with confidence. This week students practiced identifying and writing the number 13, counting to 100, labeling parts of a penguin, and compiling and illustrating syntactically and semantically correct sentences including an adjective, noun, verb, and prepositional phrase! They practice kindness every day and are getting along so well. Enjoy the gallery of photos and see some of the things TK has been doing this week. Hooray for the 100 days!
