Corinne is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is Barbie: Shooting for the Stars. Here is what students had to say about Corinne: "She's always nice and kind." - Abeer "She shows kindness at calendar." - Aizah "She's a good artist and she helps me." - Avery "She always plays with me and she's respectful." - Ayaan "I like Corinne." - Alana "She's nice." - Oliver We have had a wonderful week back from break. These kids came back recharged and ready to learn! We wrapped up our social science focus on thankfulness this week. Students had the chance to decorate and share a feather with things for which they are thankful. Check out our "thankful turkey" display with their beautiful work. Students finally got to do the turkey maraca dance with GoNoodle too. Such silly fun! TK had fun with an art project incorporating our new math focus, shapes! We cut triangles to make pine trees and added dots of white for a snowy effect. Can't wait to see them on our classroom wall. On Thursday, we had our first Kind Kids Club meeting with Mrs. Hines and her mascot, Mr. Fluffy. Students read a book and watched a video about how kind acts make our world so much better. Students have been challenged to spread kindness for a week and record all their kind acts. I can't wait to hear about their good deeds! It was lovely to see a lot of activity in our class library this week. I just love seeing so many engaged readers sharing books together in our classroom library.

Connor is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is DC Super Friends: Bizarro Day! Here is what students had to say about Connor: "He plays with everyone." - Gurshan "He's cool." - Dalton "He plays with me every day." - Joanna "He's nice." - Carmela "He plays wall ball with me." - Evan "He's a great kid." - Lara This week was a week to be thankful. We are thankful to have safe places to go to in this challenging time and place. Our school continues to be significantly impacted by the Camp Fire. Students have been on a rainy day schedule all week due to the horrible air quality. Today it exceeded 400 on the AQI. The rating scale only goes up to 500 and good air is below 50. School has been closed tomorrow. This is the first time in my career that anything like this has happened. Many of our school community have connections to those further north who are victims or responders. Our hearts go out to them.
We did our best to make the most of this tough week. TK had many joyous inside recesses. The students enjoyed the novelty of eating snacks in class, special toys and games (my Little Ponies are always a big hit!), and extra GoNoodle time. We continued to learn each day too of course and had fun creating turkey hats. Students were challenged to use a pattern to decorate the feathers. It took a lot of stamina to complete the entire semi-circle. Many students were successful though! Here are some highlights of our week: Gurshan is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is Corduroy's Halloween. Here is what students had to say about Gurshan: "He plays nice with people." - Isaiah "I like Gurshan." - Adriana "He plays with me every day." - Connor "He's nice." - Lorenzo "He's nice and kind and polite." - Kebron "We pick up leaves with him." - Kseniia This is an exciting time of year for writing instruction. Now that students are getting more comfortable with letter names, sounds, and formation, they are ready to write in journals. This week we talked about weather and listed many kinds of weather together. then, students wrote the word for their favorite type of weather in their journal and drew a picture to go with it. They are off to a great start and are truly excited about writing! Today was extra special because TK had a visit from Captain Kindness and Mrs. Imgarten's First Grade. They shared ways to show kindness and even brought us a gift...Kindness Capes!
Carmela is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is Barbie in the Nutcracker. Here is what students had to say about Carmela: "She always wears her jacket super good." - Bella "She always listens to the teacher." - Louis "I like Bella." - Vaibhav "She has a beautiful wig on Halloween." - Corinne "She's a good girl." - Luke "She's nice." - Oliver This was a busy week with minimum days, parent conferences and, most notably, Halloween! Here are some fun shots from our Halloween festivities. I'm so grateful for the outpouring of parent help this season. We couldn't have this much fun without our volunteers. Enjoy the photos!
