This week we learned a lot about rainbows in TK. Students can sing about all the colors of the rainbow. In addition to learning about the colors, students were introduced to more advanced concepts too. We talked about how rainbows are made when light bends through water or prisms and that white light always has all the colors of the rainbow in it, even when we can't see it. Students practiced fine motor skills while applying their rainbow knowledge with a tear art and writing project. Their art is cheering up our room so much. Tomorrow we will make real rainbows and have a rainbow day celebration! Students are getting more familiar with our center job routine and are becoming ever more successful at choosing their jobs and working independently. I am so proud of these hard workers! A highlight of our days is recess time. I love seeing students making new friends.

TK is working hard to learn behavior expectations at school. Last Friday, we celebrated their hard work with a special lunch and playtime with the teacher. On Fridays, we work as a community to solve problems. Then we share the best part of our week. This week we read the classic story, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Then students watched as I cracked a coconut! It was exciting to watch the water spill out. They got to taste it too. It was not popular with many students. A few asked for more servings though! We are getting ready to learn about rainbows this week by sharing our knowledge and asking questions. Next week we will celebrate with a Rainbow Day!
It's a new year full of new friends in TK. We have had a wonderful start to the year learning about our class and our school. We play, sing, share and explore every day. We are learning to be good listeners and great helpers in the classroom. We are also learning about our new friends and how to treat one another with kindness. We shared lots of wonderful stories! On the first day we read The Crayon Box That Talked about crayons who do not get along, all thinking they are the best. By the end of the story, a girl has taught them that it takes all of them working together to complete a picture. Each student used their single color to add to a class mural to demonstrate the point made in the book. Now that we're together, our classroom is complete!
