We work with our names every day. Sometimes we hunt for letters of the week. One of these Cs is not like the others and it created an opportunity to mention soft c vs. hard c. We use our names to choose our center jobs each day. Kids love choices in learning. So fun to see what they choose for themselves. Some fun centers for Cc week were measuring corn with measuring cups, observing colors of the leaves, and the always-popular letter discovery job full of Cc things (Alphabot C, caterpillar, camel, Catina Cat card, cat, cotton ball, and Colors of the Desert book. In science, we learned about buoyancy. We made predictions about the meaning of the word "buoyant" (ex. "a name for a type of gymnastics") then watched a short science video on buoyancy and learned the true meaning of the word buoyant. Next we we hypothesized that a cup would float on water and that it would take a lot of pennies to sink the cup. We were right. It actually took 85 pennies in the cup to sink it to the bottom of the water bin! We learned about days of the week and months of the year in Spanish and made lions in art too! See our newsletter for more going on in TK here: Oh, and here are photos from our Teddy Bear Picnic last Friday. We loved having our bears at school with us. We read, sang, snacked, and played with our bears to celebrate the end of Bb week. We also learned about the Grizzly Bear and that it is found on our California state flag. I actually helped fold our school's state flag on the day that we learned this fact. What a fun coincidence! Fun Bear Fact: Winnipeg, AKA "Winnie" (a live bear), and Christopher Robin (a boy) really existed. They played together at the London Zoo many years ago. They inspired A.A. Milne, Christopher Robin's father, to write the Winnie the Pooh stories. We learned all about the true story when we read Finding Winnie. Stay tuned for more adventures in TK!

It's Bb week so we watched chemistry in action by combining water, vinegar, dish soap, and baking soda to make a bubble explosion. It was so fun that we did it twice! Transcribed from our class at circle time today: We said, "Let's make a potion and then the baking powder made it explode!" We learn Spanish each week with Senora Quant. Every day spent with friends is a fun day. We are a Rainbow of Friends! Check out our latest newsletter for more on what is going on in TK.
It's a month into the school year and that wonderful time when routines finally feel more like routines and less like new expectations. I am so proud of this group of students. They show kindness every day and are so excited about learning. This week's highlights are featured in our newsletter. For more, follow us on Twitter @MsB_Love2Teach
What fun we've had learning about letters, numbers, colors, the science of rainbows, sharing stories, and even busting open a coconut together. One student liked it so much, she coaxed her family to buy one at the store right after school! See what we've been doing: |
