Titus is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is Spider-Man Far from Home: Peter and Ned's Ultimate Travel Journal. Look what students had to say about Titus: "He's nice." - Isabel "Sometimes he plays with me and Bea." - Evelyn "He always plays with me at school." - Bea "He does his work so good." - Matthew "It's so cool that he has a golden medal." - Pao "He always tries his best." - Rithish Well, we made it! Despite the school closure, we kept connecting and learning each school week. I'm so grateful for Seesaw and Zoom, the platforms that have allowed us to connect and learn, and for parents pouring in their love, time, and support behind the scenes.
It wasn't business as usual these past two months, but there was comfort in doing some of the usual end-of-year routines. We finished our letter of the week focus with Zeke Zebra, I collected student's work from the year including their special art projects and prepared a small gift to send them off into summer. We're going to have a mini talent show in Zoom for students that want to participate and our whole school is going to have a car parade for each grade level. I am so excited to see my students' sweet faces and smiles live and in person one last time. I look forward to standing with my teaching team and waving at the families passing through. It's not how we thought the year would end; all the same, it will be enough. <3

It will be nice to take a break from the academics and catch our breath before we finish out the year. Stay well and if you need a little getaway, might I suggest watching the Disneyland parade on YouTube? Xander is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is Ryan's Pizza Party. Look what students had to say about Xander: "I like Xander." - Abigail "He plays with me at recess." - Carter "He always plays with me." - Mason "He bounces me on the bridge." - Kyle "I like Xander." - Sophia "He always tries his best at school and he listens." - Sasha Wow. In a few short weeks, the world turned upside down. The COVID-19 pandemic has us all sheltering in place since schools closed on Monday, March 16th. Things have changed so fast since that first day of closure and continue to change almost daily. One thing that never changed though is our Morning Meetings. We may not be able to see each other at school but, thanks to Zoom, our Morning Meetings didn't miss a beat. We were back together on the first day of the school closure for greetings, sharing, and activities online in real time. It's not the same as being together at school of course, but it's incredible to see all our TK friends' faces and hear their sweet voices each school day. I am so grateful for this time we have. Here are a few images of our meeting times together. The costumes are from our new tradition, Fancy Friday! TK students love to dress up (and if I'm being honest, so do I!) It's nice to have a reason to get out of pajamas too. On our first Friday, Belle hosted our ZOOM meeting from the ballroom. The following Friday it was Fancy Nancy and most recently we went tropical and sang Lava together. Lots of kids dressed up too! Spider-Man joined us from the city, princesses came, we saw Vietnamese Chinese and Indian traditional dress clothes, baseball players, Iron Man, and more! Teachers everywhere are missing their kids. This week our staff came together to create a music video dedicated to the students and families at STAR. Special thanks to Scott Semple, Kham Vue, and Emily Shane for making producing, "Always a Star" Here's to making the most of remote everything (and to finding ways to keep from going stir crazy!) Stay safe out there and take care of each other. <3
Tavish is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is PJ Masks Make Friends. Look what students had to say about Tavish: "He's nice." - Bruce "He plays with me and Rithish." - Joshua "He's nice and he always tries his best." - Gracie "He always plays with me." - Kyle "He always tires his best at school and he pays attention." - Xander "He was playing with me today and he made me happy." - Marley This week students were given extra guidance on good hygiene when it comes to hand washing and handling coughs and sneezes. Last week they even had fun learning the TikTok handwashing dance! We all want to stay healthy during this cold and flu season and always. :)
In preparation for St. Patrick's Day, students listened to a fun fiction story about a tricky leprechaun and created rainbow art complete with a pot of gold at the end of it! Sophia is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. TK went on their first field trip this Thursday. They had a blast exploring at The Children's Museum. What a special day!
Rithish is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is Penguins! by National Geographic Kids. Look what students had to say about Rithish: "He's my friend." - Brian "I like Rithish." - Evelyn "Rithish is funny." - Felix "He's a good leader." - Mason "He's really talented and a good reader." - Sasha "He always tries his best on his work and he never gives up." - Zoe It was Tt week. That means the trains came back at choice time! This week students learned about Abraham Lincoln. They observed his image on a five dollar bill and a penny. Then they created an Abraham Lincoln art project too. Students are focusing on the social skill of self control. Students discussed what self-control looks like and sounds like. Students are practicing self-control throughout the day, especially at center job time when the expectation is that students work independently without talking. They have been earning points for every two minutes that they can maintain the silence. On Wednesday, they earned their 20th point and got a special visit from Mr. Vinni who brought special electronic toys to entertain the class on Digital Learning Day.
Sasha is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is Pinkalicious Flower Girl by Victoria Kann. Look what students had to say about Sasha: "She's nice." - Bea "She's very quiet." - Erik "She wrote a nice note to me on Valentine's Day." - Eva "She's super cute and nice." - Kyara "She's smart." - Jared "She's really talented." - Anaya This week students learned about life long ago in George Washington's time. We also had the opportunity to host some 5th Grade students for a few days. TK loved having these "big kids" join our class community and I loved having the extra helping hands.
Mason is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is It's Christmas David by David Shannon. Look what students had to say about Mason: "He always tries his best at school." - Pao "I like Mason." - Kyle "He is so duper nice to me." - Carter "He's my friend." - Colin "He's super, super, super, super kind to me." - Joshua "He always tries his best and is quiet in line." - Tavish Highlights of Rr week were a visit from the Dairy Council and showing friendship with valentines!

Children got to bring toys to school and enjoy a whole day of unstructured play. Don't be fooled though; play is serious business. Children build many necessary social skills during play. Cooperation, persuasion, conflict management, and decision making are all strengthened during unstructured play. Even more though, GSPD is possibly the most joyful day of the year. Just look at all these happy kids!
Matthew is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is It's Christmas, David! by David Shannon. Look what students had to say about Matthew: "He's always trying his best." - Bea "He's handsome." - Eva "I like Marley." - Matthew "He always is a good friend." - Marley "He's a good dancer." - Gracie "He always tries his best." - Zoe We celebrated the 100th Day of School this week! Students explored counting one hundred objects in many ways and had fun decorating and wearing crowns. These kids are 100 days smarter! It was also Pp week and we learned lots about penguins. Students got to stand next to a life-sized Emperor Penguin poster to see if they are taller than the giant penguins. Most aren't! I can't wait to see students' cute penguin cut outs in the window soon too! We were so busy that we only had time for a few of the special Kindness Week activities. That's okay though because we can spread kindness next week too! :)
