Five year olds have an amazing range of resolutions from playing piano or basketball to getting a cat and being a shark! (No, not wearing a costume; being a shark. Haha!) After all the holiday fun in December and the first week back in January, it was great to return to our regular routines this week. Here are some glimpses of our STAR sharing her All About Me poster, our Morning Meeting sharing time, and a Handwriting Without Tears lesson too.

Celebrating the holidays with five year olds is the BEST! We are so lucky to have many, many parent volunteers (and some special guest siblings too!) who make big in-class celebrations possible. I hope these little ones had a joyful holiday break. I can't wait to see them again to ring in the new year!
Kyle is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is Llama Llama Holiday Drama by Anna Dewdney. Look what students had to say about Kyle: "He's nice and my friend." - Titus "He always tries his best." - Brian "I like Kyle." - Bruce "Kyle always plays with me." - Carter "He always tries his best at school and he listens to you." - Sasha "He likes me bouncing him on the bouncy bridge." - Xander This week was a flurry of activity! Students had so much fun engaging with their senses, especially taste and smell. They had more chances to play with indoor recess toys and had a couple of special guests come read and act out a snowman story too!
Joshua is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is How to Train Your Dragon 2. Look what students had to say about Joshua: "Joshua always tries his best." - Felix "He doesn't give up." - Isabel "I like Joshua." - Kyle "Joshua's a nice friend." - Pao "He always tries his best." - Kyle "He's my friend." - Sophia This week TK had their second Kind Kids Club lesson with Mrs. Hines. Students learned that sharing kind words and doing kind deeds fills others and ourselves with good feelings. They practiced giving compliments, sang a song about filling a bucket, and colored art to give to others. We had our first rainy days of the school year. Students couldn't go outside to play on our rainy days so they got extra toys to enjoy with friends indoors instead! Students are learning about shapes this week. We started our study by transforming triangles into pine tree art. The creations make our class wall so cheery! Finally, I'd like to give a big shout out to all the parents who have been coming in to support students with name writing and reading our little sight word readers each day. The students get so much out of that one on one time with parents. Thank you!!
Isabel is our STAR of the Week. Her favorite book is Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by Eric Litwin and James Dean! Look what students had to say about Isabel: "I like Isabel." - Abigail "She's nice." - Bea "Isabel's kind." - Evelyn "She's nice and she's my friend." - Gracie "Me and her always play with each other. It makes me so happy." - Marley "She's nice to me and she plays with me all day." - Zoë What a joyful week we had in TK. Students shared their gratitude all week with journal writing, sharing their thankful feathers, and by creating a T-chart about what thankfulness looks like a sounds like. We learned a little about the first Thanksgiving. We wore our turkey hats with feather patterns and did a silly turkey dance with maracas. We even celebrated good behavior this month with a popcorn movie pajama party! TK is a super fun place to be and I'm grateful to be spending this year with an incredibly sweet class of little ones. <3 Happy Thanksgiving!!
Felix is our STAR of the Week. His favorite book is No, David! by David Shannon. Look what students had to say about Felix: "Felix is so nice to me." - Titus "He always tries his best." - Rithish "He's my friend." - Colin "He's nice." - Sasha "He's my friend." - Xander "He always plays with me." - Mason This week TK has focused on thankfulness. We talked about what it looks like and sounds like. We greeted our friends with, "Thank you for coming!" Students also had the opportunity to write thank you notes to the Donor's Choose donor who requested them. We are thankful for our so many things, especially our new play table and play rug in TK and to the generous donors who made it possible!

We have enjoyed so many sunny days this month! Today we spent extra time outside with parachute fun for PE! After the minimum day schedule last week, students enjoyed coming back to our regular routines, especially choice time every day! Here they are at our morning meeting cheering for their friends who came to school today and enjoying the new classrooms items (table and play rug) from Donor's Choose!

Our Fall Festival celebration on the 31st had so many wonderful volunteers though that I was able to step back and take quite a few photos that day. Here they are...Enjoy! :)

This week we added more fall themed centers with leaves and pumpkins! On Thursday, students had fun with pumpkin math and science. We are so fortunate to have many parent volunteers that can make extra special events like this possible. Sami surprised us with a visit on Thursday too. The kids loved seeing him again and cheering each other on with positive messages including, "Never give up! You got this!" and "Strive, Achieve, Motivate, Inspire!" Here they are practicing during our "Letter Walk" today. These kids are becoming better and better writers too! This week we wrote in journals for the first time this week. Students shared what they did over fall break, observed me write and illustrate my fall break activity, then wrote and illustrated on their own. They put so much effort into their work. Look at this level of detail! Today we had fun with extra outside time for PE. Students learned how to safely ride trikes and played with sidewalk chalk too. Check the Twitter feed for some trike video footage. :)
