Students were introduced to the vowel/consonant distinction. They looked for letter Ee in messages and stories. TK continued to explore dinosaurs too, especially their life cycle. Students learned that dinosaurs hatched from eggs and that the life cycle goes on and on...well until extinction at least! Another awesome part of our week was being paid a visit by Captain Kindness and a First Grade class who shared a message about kindness and delivered kindness capes for teachers and students to use in recognition of kind acts at school. So kind! We got a jump start on Ff Week by opening up a Forky craft station at choice time today. I love their quirky creations!

TK had a blast learning about dinosaurs. They loved playing with dinosaurs at choice time, doing math and literacy activities with a dinosaur theme, creating dinosaur art (soon to be on display in the front window!) and reading lots of books about dinosaurs. Students were introduced to the parts of speech and created complex sentences about dinosaurs orally with the help of a sentence patterning chart. TK created a cute paper bag dog puppet and sang songs about dogs with them at our morning meeting. Students also learned how to form numbers 1, 2, and 3 in our Handwriting without Tears program. They like to practice at center time with play-dough and dry erase number formation. Happy Fri-yay! Hope it's a joyful one.

When the fluffy rainbow is complete, students earn a celebration. This time, students earned a bonus recess with bubbles, chalk, music, and watercolors. They had so much fun! Friday was Picture Day and also our Teddy Bear Picnic. TK loves to read, sing, work, eat, and play with their bears on Teddy Bear Picnic Day!

Hooray for rainbows!
We had a colorful week learning about colors, the science behind rainbows, and getting a little taste of the tropics with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, ukulele music, and coconuts. This class is settling into routines beautifully and we are having such joyful days. Take a look at these images of our week together!
What an incredible start to the year we have had! This class is so sweet and kind and they are blowing me away with their overall readiness for school. I am one lucky teacher!! Here they are on the first day of TK looking for Mouse's cookies after we read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. We found the cookies in the Principal's Office and shared them! This TK class is really good at sharing and caring and they follow directions too! I am so proud of them. <3
Today the last of our six butterflies emerged from their chrysalids! The children were so excited to observe them this morning. They even joined us in our Morning Meeting circle and we sang to them. Since the weather is nice and we have a four day weekend, I decided that today would be the best day to release them. TK was so excited to see them released to our bushes along the playground. Thankfully, none were attacked by birds during the process. Our job is done! We also had a guest visit by three local high school students who wrote and illustrated stories in Spanish and English. They read their stories to TK and students got to pick their favorite. What a super fun way to end the week!

This week we are enjoying getting back to our routines. When students returned on Monday, they saw that their hungry caterpillars had transformed into chrysalids. Now we are watching and waiting for them to emerge as butterflies! It is an incredible process to observe. I was excited to learnt that TK had funds leftover that I could spend for our classroom and I bought some lovely new toys for the students to use at choice time. I also pulled the trains back out and put the newly donated kinetic sand and play-doh to use. The children are thrilled to have so many fun options at school! One parting shot from last week...we had a T-Rex greet us at drop off! What?! Thanks, Miss Maribel for rocking the start of our school day and promoting the Book Fair. It was a hit!!
