It's been an exciting week. Inspired by Mrs. Shane's Chinese lantern art project, we read and learned about Chinese New Year! We pretended to dance as a dragon together in a parade. Dancers have to keep space between each other as they move in line. After reading, we wrote things we liked about the celebration and made sure to make space between our words like the space the dancers keep in their dragon dance. We got to enjoy a fortune cookie too thanks to a donation by Ma Jong's restaurant in Sacramento.
With the new year in full swing, we've been focusing on learning all twelve months of the year.
Global Play Day was a HUGE success. These kids were made for play. I loved seeing their joy all day long.
In science we studied rocks. We made observations and recorded them in our science notebooks.
On the 2nd, we celebrated Groundhog Day! We agreed that a groundhog is probably an unreliable meteorologist but that it was a fun tradition anyway. Most students predicted that he would see his shadow...and they were right!
There's even more to celebrate next week when we reach our 100th day of school! Until then, see what else we've been doing in the class newsletter:
