We learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and how he wanted all people to be treated as equals. We learned he believed in kindness and fairness. Because we observed his birthday on Monday, we wrote happy birthday messages to Martin Luther King Jr. in our journals. "We had fun and sang happy birthday Martin Luther King," said Marissa. "I know Adan wanted to write something nice," said Tristan. In science, we learned about penguins and opened a fun new "roll and race" penguin board game in math. Students were especially excited when the puppet center was opened. They have been waiting all year for it! We learned how make a puppet show interesting by giving the characters a problem and making sure they find a solution to end the show. We also revisited ABC order with a new letter train puzzle. It's so long that it stretches across the whole rug! In another new center, we are starting to focus on medial sounds with a CVC stacking job. Students sort and stack words by listening for the short vowel sound. In our Handwriting Without Tears program, we have learned the correct formation for all uppercase letters. Yay! This week we are reviewing all letters we have learned from A-Z. Next week, we start our focus on lowercase letters.
